GMAM No.4074

The Garratt GMAM No.4074 was restored to service, the project being finished in May 2007.

Unfortunately during the SLST Tour 2007 numerous stay caps started leaking and now it is a new restoration project for us all at Umgeni Steam Railway.

The stay caps that require attention require the removal at least of the cab section of the loco, possibly even the boiler !

This is going to take a lot of money to implement and a huge amount of time.  Perhaps we will not see the GMAM run again for many years to come unless we receive funding for the project. We are going to start a special fund for the project but until that officially starts perhaps, if you are interested in helping to start a restoration funding project in your region, you could contact the webmaster on the address at the bottom of the page.  Your comments would also be welcomed.
